紀州犬の里
御浜町尾呂志地区
日本オオカミの血を引くといわれる“紀州犬”の故郷が
御浜町阪本とされています。
今から約300年ほど昔、御浜町阪本に峰 弥九郎（みね
やくろう）という猟師がいました。弥九郎はある日、山道で苦しんでいるオオカミを助けました。助けてもらったオオカミは、弥九郎が山を下るまで用心棒のようにずっとついてきました。そんなオオカミに「もう山へ帰っていいから、もしお前に子どもが生まれたら一匹わしにおくれ」と言いわかれました。
それからしばらくたったある日、弥九郎の家の前に一匹の子犬が置かれいていました。（この子犬が、紀州犬の祖先であると言われています） 子犬は、弥九郎に「マン」と名付けられ、立派な猟犬に育ちました。お殿様に襲い掛かってきた山の俊速で獰猛なイノシシを退治したという民話が伝わっていて、弥九郎の墓は今も「水月山岩洞院」というお寺に残っています。

About 300 years ago, there was a hunter named Mine Yakuro in Sakamoto, Mihama-cho. One day, Yakuro saved a wolf that
was suffering on a mountain road. The saved wolf followed Yakuro down the mountain like a bouncer. Yakuro talked to the wolf, "You can go back to the mountains now. If you born a baby, give
me one.".
Then one day, a puppy was left in front of Yakuro's house. (This puppy is said to be the ancestor of the Kishu dog.) The puppy was named "Man" by Yakuro and
grew up to be a fine hunting dog. A folktale has been handed down that a fierce wild boar was defeated by Toshihaya of the mountain who attacked the lord, and Yakuro's grave still remains in a
temple called "Suigetsusan Gantoin".
It was about the ancestor of the Kishu dog!
