A rough version of the old story "Yakuro Monogatari" about the origin of Kishu dogs ...
About 300 years ago, there was a hunter named Mine Yakuro in Sakamoto, Mihama-cho. One day, Yakuro saved a wolf that was suffering on a mountain road. The saved wolf followed Yakuro down the mountain like a bouncer. Yakuro talked to the wolf, "You can go back to the mountains now. If you born a baby, give me one.".
Then one day, a puppy was left in front of Yakuro's house. (This puppy is said to be the ancestor of the Kishu dog.) The puppy was named "Man" by Yakuro and grew up to be a fine hunting dog. A folktale has been handed down that a fierce wild boar was defeated by Toshihaya of the mountain who attacked the lord, and Yakuro's grave still remains in a temple called "Suigetsusan Gantoin".
It was about the ancestor of the Kishu dog!
